Capturing the Heart of Kansas City

Updated: Oct 21

In recent years, Kansas City has embraced the Parade of Hearts, a public art experience featuring heart sculptures designed by local artists and placed throughout the region. While I don't actively hunt for them, I always stop to take a picture whenever I come across one. Initially conceived as a one-time project to support those affected by the pandemic, the Parade of Hearts has quickly evolved into something much more significant.

Mid-Continent Public Library - North Oak Branch

On our way to storytime we came across this heart called Once Upon A City is by Dani Romay and Laura King.

Memorial Park - Raymore

I took Lizzy and Grandma to the playground. When Lizzy was done playing I realized there was a geocache nearby and went to go get it. Along the way we found this heart - Low-Poly Open Heart by Matthew Duffy. Funny enough this is not a heart on the Parade of Hearts, it's just a temporary art piece.

Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium

Another outing with Grandma! We enjoyed the great weather and decided to go to the zoo. At the entrance is Beneath the Waves by Scott Seetin. This one is very beautiful and you can even see Downtown Kansas City skyline in the artwork.

Inside the zoo is the heart from 2023, which we gotten a picture of back in October 2023.

Historic Downtown Liberty

We decided to pop over to the square in Liberty to go to the farmers market and grab some tea from Anna Marie's Teas shop. On our way to the square we saw the heart We're From Here by Vincent Medellin.

Off of Englewood - Kansas City

Lizzy and I had to do a trip down to the pet store to buy our cats' some food. As we were heading out we ran into the heart The City of Fountains by Taylar Sanders.

Kauffman Stadium

On the very day we visited The City of Fountains, we also discovered the vibrant City Fountains of Sports by Julie Flanagan! Our destination was the Royals versus Mariners game.

J. Rieger & Co. - Kansas City

Wednesday nights in the summer at J. Rieger & Co feature live music! Michael and I thought it would be a great idea to drop by since we had some free time. That's when we came across Infinite Love by Trey Morgan.

Country Club Plaza - Kansas City

While waiting to meet up with some friends for Boba, we walked passed this heart. It is a Tribute to Arthur Kraft by Celina Curry. Arthur Kraft is an American painter, sculptor, and muralist from Kansas City.
