A popular event that Amber and I try to go to every February is Let’s Wine About Winter. We sip our way around the Historic Downtown Liberty square sampling over 20 various wines. These wines are located throughout the downtown in many businesses. This gives a great opportunity for us to taste wine and shop or eat at some local spots. This year was the 12th annual Let’s Wine About Winter and our 5th year going.
This year there were 25 wine stops and 4 food stops scattered around Historic Downtown Liberty. We opted to start at three new stops that were added a bit further away from the square near the old Corbin Mill. Our first stop was Blush Farms Cork + Board, a shop that designs charcuterie boards. Recently they have partnered with Belvoir Winery, so Amber and I were very interested in checking them out. They had various little gifts for many different types of events. A few stops later we visited Style House Boutique, they had a Riesling that Michael, Amber, and I really liked. They were also having a sale on their winter items. Liking cute sweaters, I tried one out that Amber told me to. It was so soft and comfortable and on sale so I bought it!
Our next store wasn’t a part of the wine walk but we saw the sign saying, “be careful 3 cats” and it looked like cute little shop. It was called Bratcher Cooperage & Gifts, the little gift shop had a wide selection of gifts, cards, and wooden buckets. As expected, there were three cats; all were very friendly and demanded pets as we walked around the shop. The shop lady was also very friendly and had wonderful stories about her cats.
A few stops later and we arrived at D’Agee & Co. Florist, this stop has cute gifts and flowers. The most important part of the stop are the two cats that hang out there. As we waited in line for the wine, the black cat came up to Amber and me for pets. Then he walked away and made his way to sit by the window, but Michael went over and asked, “can I pet you too?” Graciously, the black cat let Michael give him pets.
Our first two food stops were at two art studios, Lost Arts Courses and All About Tie Dye. Lost Arts is a place that offers hands-on art classes such as making greeting cards and string art. They had donuts, mini-Oreos, non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiris and piña coladas. All About Tie Dye, had the best food just snacks, cookies, and veggies. They also had pretty and cool tie dye hanging around. Amber and I bought a matching tie dye towel. After getting a snack at those two stops we stopped at the next food stop which was Anna Marie’s Teas. This tea shop sells loose leaf tea and other various tea related items like mugs and teapots. The smell of Anna Marie’s Teas is a wonderful fresh smell, and the staff are always so friendly and helpful.
As we made our way around the next few wine stops, we realized that we were getting close to the event being over. We still had five stops left and two were at our favorite shops to buy something at: Petals & Potpourri and Brant’s Clothing. However, this year when we stopped at Petals & Potpourri, a seasonal decoration, and gifts store, we didn’t see any cute towels like we normally do. We made our way to La Costa Mexicana; they always have a homemade sangria that is a favorite of ours. With two stops left we went to Brant’s Clothing, a shop that sells various sports memorabilia from area high schools, colleges, and of course Kansas City teams. Amber and I bought matching Kansas City Chiefs shirts, while Michael and I bought decorative stones of our colleges (GO BIG RED! GO BEARCATS!)
After finishing up with all the tastings we went over to see if there was any wine left that we had liked to buy to take home. Luckily for us, for the first time, there was a bottle left! We bought Relax Prosecco, a sparkling wine with notes of citrus fruit. To finish off the day, we ate at Luigi’s, an Italian restaurant. It was relaxing and the food was amazing. Plus we got a dessert for the three of us to share.
